Renowned fashion designer Wendell Rodrigues belonged to the Catholic family of Goa. He started his career with designing for Lakme Cosmetics, Garden Varelli, and Derbies. He was homosexual and married in 2002 with Jerome Marell in Paris.
The famous fashion designer of Goa, Wendell Rodrigues has passed away. He was 59 years old. Wendell’s dead body is found in his Goa home. He was also known for being a fashion designer as well as an opinionated writer, environmental activist and gay rights. He played a cameo role in the controversial film Boom of Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif in the year 2003. Apart from this, he played his character in the film Fashion released in 2008.
Rodrigues was born on 28 May 1960. He belonged to the Kethoulik family of Goa. He started his career with designing for Lakme Cosmetics, Garden Varelli, and Derbies. He was homosexual and married in 2002 with Jerome Marell in Paris. Wendell was also a troll at the Grammy Awards some time ago due to his comment on Priyanka Chopra’s dress, after which she also gave the clarification in this matter. Wendell is also credited with popularizing the Kunbi saree with her design in the new collection. These sarees are worn by tribal women of Goa.

His first collection was showcased in the year 1990, after which he also got the tag of Guru of Minimalism. After this, he focused on eco-friendly garments in Indian fashion. After spending almost two decades in the fashion industry, Wendell became one of Bollywood’s top fashion designers. Wendell was awarded the Padma Shri in the year 2014.
In addition, he has been awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture in the year 2015. Due to the deteriorating environment of Goa, he also started doing climate activism. He wrote in his autobiography Green Room that he was able to become an activist only because of his immense love for Goa.
