how tosomeone block on instagram

Using Instagram on a daily basis, you realized that the feed no longer meets your needs. There are useless stories and posts that appear to you repetitively and, often, boring. On the other hand, you have several fake followers who continue to send you direct messages. Wanting to resolve this situation, you asked the web how to block on Instagram, thus ending up on my blog.

In fact, in the guide that follows, I will help you put an end to all your problems. Specifically, I will explain to you what happens if you block a user, how to ban it and also how to avoid viewing someone’s posts without removing them from the following. Also, I’ll tell you how to suspend friend requests and messages. Then there are other tips on the subject that could make you comfortable in certain situations. Are you ready? So come on, let’s start immediately.

How to block someone on Instagram

Before starting with the guide, I want to tell you how certain people might be able to watch your posts, stories and live stories without you being aware of them.

Basically, on Instagram, your profile is public by default. This means that the images you share end up automatically in the feeds of your followers (which could be not only Facebook friends) and also in the hashtag feeds you entered during publication. So inevitably, your photos and videos will be exposed to a more or less large audience. And among these users, there may also be people spying on you and bots.

Unless you want to grow on Instagram and become an influencer, you could put your profile private. In that case, whoever wants to become your follower must first be accepted by you. In short, it could be a useful option to protect the privacy of your content. In this way, for example, you could only share your memories with those you know.

But if you are looking for a little more visibility, you will have to “deal” with those who, alas, rudely comment on your photographs. You will need to know how to block on Instagram and also what to do to make your content invisibly intelligently. Continue reading to learn more about it.

What can you ban on Instagram:

In general, the contents that can be blocked on Instagram are the following:
  • Posts
  • Instagram stories
  • Live live
  • Hashtag
  • Public and private profiles

The social network users can be grouped into two categories: active and passive. The first are those who create and publish multimedia content in photos or posts. In short, they are entertainers. The others, on the other hand, are those who use Instagram in viewing mode, that is, they only watch the published contents without sharing their own. These can display the contents of their followers or even of famous people or Pages with many followers that have ended up in the “Explore” section.

This premise on the types of users is important to explain what and who is a possibility to ban on Instagram. Usually, in fact, users are blocked for two different reasons: because they don’t want to see their posts; or because you don’t want to show them your content.

What happens if I block someone on Instagram

In the specific case of a user blocking, it is good to know what happens by performing this action before proceeding. In fact, although Instagram will not send a notification to the one you blocked, certain operations take place within the social network. And by analyzing them, someone may find that they have been banned.

The first thing you need to know is that, by blocking someone, you will automatically stop following it. And if you later decide to unlock this person to see what he is doing, you will have to add him again to your follow.

Similarly, the blocked user will also be removed by your followers. Therefore, he will no longer be able to see what you do on the social network. You could then use block on Instagram even temporarily, so as to eliminate a person from your followers.

In addition to what has just been said, however, something else also happens. In fact, a blocked user will no longer see your profile, even in searches. For him, it will be as if you had been deleted from the social network. And consequently, until that account is logged in to Instagram, you will not be able to see or comment on your posts. Nor will it be able to send you messages.

However, if the blocked user knows the URL of your profile, he may arrive on your wall. Even in this case, however, he would not be able to view your posts. The social network system, in fact, would show him an error message, as you had never published a post. Furthermore, he would not be allowed to follow you (although you see the “Follow” button).

Remember, however, that an anonymous user, so not logged in to Instagram, could still spy on you if your profile is public. There are indeed many ways to spy on Instagram, especially with regards to stories. Therefore, always pay attention.

Stories and posts

As you anticipated, on Instagram you can block different types of content, including posts and stories. However, it is good to distinguish between your posts and those of other users.

In the first case, in fact, you will have to prevent others from viewing your content. While in the second case, you will have to adjust the feed options so that you can hide or completely remove certain content. But let’s proceed with the order.

Block stories and own posts

You can block your posts and stories to others using three social network features:

  • Hide
  • Closer friends
  • Block

Using the Hide option, available for both stories and posts, you can make your content invisible to the followers you don’t want them to see. As for the stories, it is sufficient that you go into the Settings of your profile, Privacy section, and choose the History option. Then, touch the item that appears below hiding story to and enters the profile of your interest.

In the same section, since you are there, you could also configure the closest friends or those trusted users to whom you can also show your most sensitive stories. This list is very valuable because it allows you to hide the Stories of your public profile even from the most common espionage tools, such as stories. So, by doing so, no one will be able to download or otherwise reproduce them incognito.

As for the posts, during publication, you have to choose the Advanced Settings option. In that list, you can select the Closest Friends option, so you can only share it with the people you entered in that list.

Alternatively, if all these options were not sufficient, you could use the Block function. Simply search for the profile to be removed, connect to its bulletin board, touch the three dots (top right) and choose the corresponding option. Once confirmed, that profile will no longer receive your content in its feed. Furthermore, you will no longer be able to view them or find them (obviously if you are logged in).

Block stories and posts from other users

You can also block other people’s stories and posts on Instagram. It can be done in different ways, namely:

  • Silencing the user
  • Removing the follow
  • Blocking the user or page

The Silence option is precisely the one that is the quietest possible because you will remain a follower of that account, but at the same time, you will no longer see its contents, nor the posts, nor the stories, nor the direct ones. You can activate it by going to that profile’s wall, tapping Follow already and then Silence. In that section, activate the option for Post and Stories (or adjust the choice as you prefer). The muted user will not receive any notification.

If you also want to remove yourself from that person’s follower list, always from the profile bulletin board, tap Follow already and then Don’t follow anymore. Keep in mind, though, that if that person has few followers, he’ll easily understand that you don’t follow him anymore. There are also several tools to see who is no longer your follower on Instagram. Follow this guide to learn more.

Finally, if you want to avoid receiving message requests and at the same time prevent this person from following you, you could use the block. You can do this again from the bulletin board of the profile of your interest. From there, touch the three dots, choose Lock and confirm. Within a few seconds, you will become invisible to that person.

Blocking of Instagram functions

Regarding blocking on Instagram, it is also necessary to refer to the features that can be interrupted. By doing this, it will be possible to use the social network in the best way. Let’s see then what are the procedures to follow.

Uploading photos

If for some reason you want to stop uploading a photograph before it is published, you need to know that the social network doesn’t allow you to do so.

However, you can perform third-party operations to try to block uploading photos to Instagram. Here are what they are:

  • Activate airplane mode
  • Kill the app in the background before the upload ends
  • Perform a reinstallation of the app

Automatic videos

Are the videos played automatically with Wi-Fi or with the cellular network? Don’t worry, if you don’t want this to happen, you can block videos on Instagram using a trick.

Although Instagram does not allow you to pause videos, at present, you can save jig differently. Go to Profile Settings, choose Account and then touch the Use Mobile Data option. In that section, activate the Data saving mode.

In this way, the videos will always be loaded automatically. However, if you connect to the mobile network, these movies will have lower video quality. This will surely affect the display of the video (which will be seen a little grainy), but also on the consumption of packet data (in a positive way, of course).

Instagram gives you the ability to fully manage the notifications of the app. By default, the social network app alerts you to most of the activities of the users you follow. In addition, alerts are also sent to you when you receive a Direct message.

You can block Instagram notifications in several ways, which are:

  • Silencing the user
  • Disabling that type of notification
