Stargazers reached for his or her astronomy guides after a mysterious flying object lit up the night time sky over southern Australia.
Many Victorian residents feared they had been witnessing a aircraft exploding on Friday and others thought it was a meteorite.
“It was just one round ball and it was bright red and orange,” Cloud9 Thoroughbreds coach Brent Stanley advised 7NEWS
Experts suspect it was area junk, or extra particularly, a Russian rocket re-entering the earth’s ambiance.
They say it was travelling too slowly to be a meteorite and the burning arc was too quick to be a comet.
“What we actually saw was a late stage rocket that put a Russian satellite into orbit,” Perry Vlahos from the Astronomical Society of Victoria stated.

The area junk lit up the sky for about 40 seconds and was noticed by fortunate stargazers in Victoria, NSW, Canberra, South Australia and even Tasmania.
Many reported listening to a “sonic boom” as the rocket reentered the earth’s ambiance, leaving astronomers to imagine it was travelling at greater than 1200 kph.
